As I write my poems, songs and learn to play my tunes
I think alot about Johnny Cash and his pretty wife June
how they shared the same passion for the music they sang
Johnny's deep voice mixed all up in June's sweet country twang
the old timers love the stories that I write
one old fella told me this just last night
boy that's a pretty tasty tune you got fill'n up my ears
I haven't heard a sound like that in quite a few years
have you written anything that will bring me to tears
well yes I have sir I've made grown men cry
with a poem that I wrote this last fourth of July
if you want to hear it sir I'll tell it to you
I named it Thank You, You Chosen Few
I was sitting up with my very best friend late one night
I grabbed some paper and a pen and I started to write
but I have to give credit where credit is due
because the very best friend I've ever had in my life
wrote most of what I'm about to share with you
and once again I named it Thank You, You Chosen Few
I've been working on a thank you deep inside of my mind
over and over the words are so very hard to find
I really do not know how I need to begin
so I think I'll have God himself bring it on in
I am God Almighty and I'm telling you
that I love the soldiers of the red, white and blue
as I sit up here in Heaven high upon my throne
it won't be long until I bring all you boys home
all POW's, all MIA's that got lost protecting the American way
it won't be long my son's until you are here with me
I have a spot for you here in my Infantry
I'd like to say a special thank you to a chosen few
when Uncle Sam pointed his giant finger and it landed right on you
you gave up everything back home that you knew
to do so many things that you did not want to do
and I want you all to know these are not forgotten men
shame on all of you who did not welcome them back in
I'm talking about the men of the Vietnam War
who did things no man had ever done before
as soon as you arrive here you are going to find
that we always honor men who are one of a kind
I'm talking to you men of the Vietnam War
you will be walking on red carpet as you walk through my front door
and I would love to say a very special thank you
to you ladies of the Vietnam War
you will also be on that red carpet as you are
properly escorted through my front door
I have the finest food here and it's all been prepared for you
thank you for serving your Country when they so needed for you too
and now for all you draft dodgers who ran from the war
I have a special job for you it's out side Heaven's back door
when they got to you in line you were an empty space
you let your brothers down, what a disappointing disgrace
the men of Vietnam earned the mud on their face
now it's time to earn your mud welcome to my place
it is very, very distasteful when my guard dogs dookie on my floor
and that is what I made all of you draft dodgers for
so while your cleaning up how about showing a little grit
I'd like you all to know I really appreciate it
and if you've still not done your part it's not to late to do
you may still support these men and women at your VFW
I will send down my special blessing on you chosen few
who do their part to support those who served protecting you
these men and women are the reason why you all get to do the things you do
and why the author of this writing chose to serve his Country too
I am God Almighty I hope you all have heard what I have said
I will be talking to you chosen few, soon you will be dead
I believe I got my point across I'd like to thank you all I'm done
I'm giving it back to you know you finish this my son
thank you Sir I will, your words are strong and true
and from deep inside this Marine's heart Vietnam Soldier I say to you
for serving our great Country at a time when they so needed for you too
thank you so very much, Thank You, You Chosen Few
now these Vietnam Veterans are our Fathers, our Brothers,
our Mothers, our relations
there is no reason why there should be any hesitations
of why this thank you isn't broadcasted across our entire nation
on every TV and radio station
because you see I've talked to my very best friend
and He's already told me I'm not asking again
America you need to welcome these Vietnam Veterans back in
because if you don't you alone can carry that sin
my part in this is finished my destiny is through
America the rest is entirely up to you
you screwed it up once are you going for two
let me show you what it's like to have some one turn their back on you.
